BOC Group Life Assurance Company Limited (“BOC Life”) would like to alert customers of fraudulent phone calls claimed to be from the "Chinese Insurance Authority" (中國保監局). The callers have been posing as officials from the Mainland and demanding that recipients settle renewal premiums, while threatening that failure to do so could result in their insurance policies becoming invalid or expired. When the recipients appeared hesitant or unsure about which specific policy was involved, the caller would pressure the recipients to make the payment first, and then claim they could apply for a refund later. Customers are reminded:
- Neither the Mainland regulatory authority, i.e. the National Financial Regulatory Administration (國家金融監督管理總局 NFRA) nor the local regulator, i.e. the Insurance Authority, would contact the public by phone or SMS regarding personal insurance matters;
- Do NOT disclose any personal and policy information to unidentified / unauthorized callers under any circumstances;
- Exercise caution if they are asked over the phone to make fund transfers;
- If you suspect that you have become victims of fraudulent acts should report to the police through the "Anti-Scam Helpline 18222" hotline as soon as possible; and
- For enquiries (e.g. on verifying the identities of the message senders or authenticity of the messages) , please call BOC Life Customer Service Hotline at (852) 2860 0688.
